I used this photograh as my visual reference to depth of field.
Central point in in the middle of the hand where you can see the strongest hands lines and wrinkles.
As I focused how cleaners hands look like I put my focus in the middle of their hands.

  1. Hi Sandy, hope you're getting along well with your projects. I read through your posts and started to wonder whether I've recommended Jan Svankmajer's version of Alice in Wonderland? His movie Alice from 1988 (available at the library) is a darker, surrealist adaptation of the book, and well worth seeing, especially since you're doing both the good and bad Alice.
Looking at peoples hands is interesting, as they do reveal so much of a life lived. Rumour has it that Madonna's wearing gloves all the time, because though she's fit and has had a bit of surgery, she can't help it that her hands are those of a 50+ year old... I know I had a better reference for you on hands, but my head is blank at the moment. Will get back to you if it comes to mind.

  2. The hand reference I was thinking about was Bill Viola's video Four Hands from 2001 http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?intObjectID=5128485
